In case you haven't heard, Camila is the Mexican rock act of the moment. The band's 2006 single "Abrázame" — a catchy Spanish ballad reminiscent of Oasis's "Wonderwall" — climbed to the top of the charts throughout Latin America. The group's follow-up chart-topping debut album, Todo Cambio, brought the band a Latin Grammy nomination and won it the "Year's Best Duo" award at the influential Premios Lo Nuestro. Even the popular reggaeton outfit Alexis y Fido caught the Camila bug, remixing the band's single "Yo Quiero" into a successful summer dance number.

So what accounts for Camila's instant popularity? According to the band's singer-songwriter, Mario Domm, the answer is simple. "Our reputation was built through good word of mouth," he says by phone from Spain. "We are an honest group; we don't overproduce our songs.... The band's music is real and organic. We sound the same live as we do in the studio, and I think people identify with that." In a world where overproduced, manufactured Latin bubblegum pop stands as the norm, the boys of Camila have set themselves apart by opting for clarity and simplicity.

The group is set to tour the Americas and is kicking it off in the Magic City. "Miami is a very strange place for us," admits Domm. "Every time we have been there, we spend all our time going to different radio stations and TV shows to promote our music, so we never have gotten to know the place. So [Friday's concert] will really be the first time that we get to perform a full show in the city, and I'm hoping that this time around, we'll get to meet our public and find out what Miami is really all about."
