Before Obama pardons a turkey for Thanksgiving, Cash Money Records cofounders Bryan “Birdman" Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams will take a more humanitarian approach to the holiday. This Friday, November 20, the brothers celebrate their label’s fourth-annual 2015 Thanksgiving turkey giveaway at Little Haiti Soccer Park in Miami.
The Big Tyme donation includes 1,000 turkeys along with canned goods supplied by Western Union and Little Haiti Optimist Club for Miami's families in need. Always emphasizing family, the event will be sponsored by the Johnny and Gladys Williams Foundation, a nonprofit the brothers created to honor their late parents.
Cash Money might be best-known for its New Orleans roots, but after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf ten years ago, the label relocated to Miami and adopted the 305 as its home away from home. Since then, they’ve brought their NOLA traditions and community service to the Magic City.
Birdman suggests the event is something like a show of gratitude for welcoming the Williams and their band of brothers into the neighborhood. “If you’re blessed, share those blessings," Birdman said via news release. "We learned that from a young age, and that’s what we always try to do. These communities have lifted us up, and this is our chance to lift them up.”
