Big Sean Talks Tupac vs. Biggie, Last Meals, and His Mom
As many of you know, Big Sean is G.O.O.D. Music's newest star and Kanye West's protege.
Having entered the scene back in 2007 with a totally ill mixtape entitled Finally Famous Vol. 1, this Detroit native brought the fire, which eventually led an enthused West to scout him out during his first year of college. And higher education could wait as Sean seized a major label offer and rose through the ranks with a series of mixtapes -- not to mention MC credits with such artists as Drake, Chris Brown, Mike Posner, Wiz Khalifa, and mentor West. Now after countless push-backs and date changes, Sean's full-length debut album, appropriately called Finally Famous, will hit streets June 28, featuring contributions from NO I.D. and Pharrell Williams.
Yesterday, Crossfade grabbed a quick phoner with Big Sean to talk Biggie vs. Tupac, last meals, life, memories, and his mom.

Big Sean: Oh, man ... Definitely Biggie. I grew up on Biggie. Lyrically, he was so on point. I mean, in my later years, I gained a deeper appreciation for Pac. But Biggie, hands down.

What's the last dream you could remember?
Just last night, I had a dream that I was in this hotel room sleeping. And then I woke up, in my dream, and I opened the door and there were like 50 million cameras all coming at me. So I closed the door and I went back to sleep. Then I woke back up again and there was like hot chick in my bed, which was quite nice. [Laughs] Then I went back to bed than I remember that I had to wake up to do a concert. Yeah ... That was my dream I just had.
Sounds like a prophecy of what's to come.
You know, I never thought about it like that. But yeah, maybe. Especially the girl part. [Laughs]
What was the last movie you saw?
Ghostbusters 2! You know, with the Titanic and the slime ... It was my first time seeing that movie and it was damn good.
What made you want to see Ghostbusters 2?
I happened to be in the studio and the movie was just on and I ended up watching the entire thing. My engineer was so mad at me 'cause I wasted so much time in the studio. But it was such a good flick. [Laughs] By 4 a.m., I got in the booth and laid down some tracks. So all in all, it was fine.
What was the best birthday gift ever?
Well, it was just last year. I was on 106th and Park. And on my birthday, I got to see myself on the show with my mom, my grandma, my friends, family. It was just nice to have everyone all there and to see me on TV. That was a great moment ... Best birthday gift ever.
What would be your last meal?
Hmm, my last meal would definitely have to be a three-course meal. Appetizer, entree, dessert, the whole thing ... For appetizers, I would definitely do these wings that I make. It's the bomb. For entree, definitely some crazy pasta dish. Love pasta, with asparagus, and a rib-eye steak! And for dessert, definitely my grandma's pound cake. She makes the best pound cake.
Do you remember the last conversation you had with your mom? And if so, what was it?
My last conversation with my mom was just last night. She just saw my performance on Jimmy Kimmel and she was just saying how good I looked. "You looked so good." She's like the guiding force to what I do, such an powerful figure in my life. Shout out to my mom. She gets all the props for my success.
