Well, it happens every year and this year is no different. The official DJ of the Miami Heat, DJ Irie, kicks off his annual Irie Weekend festivities at LIV tonight.
Luther Campbell is not happy with the hip-hop scene here in Miami. He told Vibe recently that he feels like the current generation of talent from Miami are all great guys, but they're aren't doing enough to help break new young artists. He wants to see more unity and mentioned that he is out of retirement and will work on a new album that will drop next year which will, in fact, feature new, up- and-coming talent. [Vibe]
ArtOfficial group member Logics recently recorded an exclusive freestyle for DJBooth.net. The freestyle is called "Everything" and is over J. Dilla's "MakeEM NV" beat, which was originally featured on The Roots' Dilla Joints mixtape. Logics definitely proves his stature as a great MC, whether with his group or atop some straight hip-hop instrumentals. [DJBooth]
Rick Ross continues to use his Twitter account for good. A few days ago, Ross put a call out to his Twitter followers that were in the Carol City area that he would be buying food for everyone and giving away free CDs at Lorna's Restaurant. About 100 fans responded to his impromptu "Tweet & Meet" open call, and all got their food paid for courtesy of Ross. They also all received free hard copies of his Memorial Day-released Albert Anastasia album. [The305]
