Tongue & Cheek

431 Washington Ave. Miami Beach, FL 33139 | South Beach | 305-704-2900

Location Description:

Tongue & Cheek, a relaxed dining room in South Beach's South of Fifth neighborhood, belongs to Jamie DeRosa and Michael Reginbogin -- both former employees of the Dream South Beach Hotel, where DeRosa cooked under celebrity chef Geoffrey Zakarian at the restaurant Tudor House. But DeRosa's current dining room is unlike his previous refined setting. It melds loud music with funky art. The kitchen offers reworked Tudor House mainstays -- pea soup, lamb belly, and branzino -- as well as fanciful treats such as lemonade popsicles, pig ear lettuce wraps, and beef cheek burgers with cheddar pimento cheese. Some nights, there's a fish-and-chips special of fried grouper cheeks. The chef proffers daily dinner specials called "family meals." They're available during happy hour, and for $10, patrons can nibble on the staff meal. DeRosa carved out this easygoing approach as a contrast to the refined American dining room of the Tudor House. This is a neighborhood restaurant with a mishmash of pristine and playful food. Which is exactly what makes this novel venture so much fun.
