This lounge, located in the 55th Street Station complex owned by Mark Soyka, is Miami's hangout mecca for local artists, musicians, pro skateboarders, writers, and Scrabble enthusiasts. It's mainly a nighttime lounge and bar, but it also serves salads, sandwiches, and appetizers. One of the most popular dishes is the sliders ($8 for two), made with Angus beef patties, smoked cheddar, bacon, sautéed onions, and chipotle ketchup. Another recommended dish is the tuna tartare ($11): Raw ahi tuna comes served with avocado, sesame seeds, soy dressing, sriracha sauce, and country bread. The News Lounge is an ideal place to begin your night, with daily 5-to-9 p.m. happy-hour specials including $3 Heinekens and $6 Bacardi mojitos. The décor is industrial/art deco, featuring '30s movie posters, mannequins on old-fashioned bicycles, and copper fittings from downtown buildings. Guests can sit inside at tables or on couches, or outside on a bed or rocking chair, among other options in their garden area. On a quiet night, head to the pool table in the back; it's perfect.
