Mahogany Grille is neither a sports bar nor a funky chitterlings joint, but a handsome soul food restaurant with warm, namesake wooden accents and fresh flowers on white linen tablecloths. Resist eating too much of the irresistible corn bread, in order to save room for crisp and crackly fried chicken with waffles -- or substitute sides of collard greens and macaroni and cheese (a good, old-fashioned, Velveeta-like affair). There are some Caribbean dishes on the menu too, like jerk chicken wings and conch fritters, and some low country specialties such as shrimp, sausage, and asiago cheese grits bathed in Creole gravy. Sunday Supper brings turkey wings, baked ham, and heavenly banana pudding with crushed Nilla Wafers layered in. You may also want to make note of Friday and Saturday evenings from 9:00 p.m. to midnight, when live jazz has this place really jumping. The wait staff here is very friendly, but slow. Still, The Mahogany Grille delights because of a certain intangible but crucial something so many places lack. Its got soul.
M.G. still needs some work on there service. The food was good. The service was poor. Unless it was meant for them to have you wait an hour for service.

food was a 4 star but the portion of chitterlings could of been larger. Then again i am avaricious when it comes to chitterlings.

This was the worst dining experience I think I have ever had. It took 15 minutes to get our reserved table ready in a resturant that had maybe twelve customers. Our waitress did not even visit our table until afer another 15 -20 minutes later,we then placed our dinner order, that didn't arrive for another 30 minutes. Please keep in mind that there are only 12 other customers. When our food was brought out my husbands was not there, his did not arrive at the table for another 10 minutes. My mac and cheese was cold as well as my collard greens and my daughters sweet potato fries were cold. Our waitress asked us how our food was while walking past the table, never once were we even offered refills on our drinks. To top it all off the waiter decided that he would begin the evening clean up by spaying furniture polish on the tables while we were eating and then bringing out the mop and bucket! This to me was such an unfortunate experience my husband and I were celebrating our 11 year anniversary with our daughters and I chose to eat at the Mahogany Grill after reading an article about the food in the Miami Herald and left feeling unsatisfied and angry. My recommendation..... DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY !!!!!!!!!!

We agree with Kerin76. As we strolled through the door, we asked the waiter if it was kid friendly. Well, they had a high chair for a three year old. We'll give 'em dat. But they did not know that those youngsters that were with me are restaurant critiques that made comments like "the presentation is nice" but the food is terrible. They love the food channel and this is what they had to say.....the chicken was nasty...the burger was raw and the bread was too hard.....who wants to eat collard greens and lobster?....and what is fried lobster?....sweet potato fries shouldn't have cinnamon and leafy veggies and smashed potatoes don't look good on a plate....Jiffy cornbread taste better, and why do have to keep begging for a refill...the worst was the long wait and the fact that the appetizers and the main course arrived a few mins apart......and worst of that they didn't offer "Auntie" the complimentary champagne.....a waste of time, energy, and money......WATCH OUT "CRITCS PICK"....WE ARE COMING YOUR WAY.... The Family.

Food was not that good and the service was terrible. From when we pulled up we should have known what we were in for when the parking lot attendants ignored us while they ate chips. After we finally found a place to park we walked inside with no one to greet us. We waited for a little bit until someone came up without saying hello and just asked if we had reservations, we said no and she simply walked off without saying anything. Someone else came to us and thankfully she said hello and showed us to a table.
As we sat there looking at our menu, someone poured us some water and asked if we had been there before, we said no, and they walked off again without saying anything. We thought that he would at least say welcome and maybe tell us a little bit about what they offer. Our waitress was a whole other story; she was not pleasant and never smiled or seemed somewhat happy to serve us. She never checked back with us to see if we needed anything, we had to ask twice for some service.
The food was not that good, it was average at best. I think I know good soul food, this was not good. I had the fish and grits; it was ok, nothing spectacular. My girlfriend is a vegetarian, all the veggies are made with turkey for some reason. She was luckily able to order Mac and cheese, corn, and some generic mixed vegetables. The Mac and cheese was bland and needed something, because it was definitely missing something. The peach cobbler was absolutely the worst I ever had; it was like soup, absolutely disgusting.
The value was not good for what you get. Ordered two cocktails, a veggie plate, fish and grits, and one peach cobbler; and spent $70! I don't know what the critics were thinking, but they were way off. I don't know if I could trust their opinion again. I would have to imagine that they announced their presence, and Mahogany Grill went out of their way to impress the critic; that’s the only way that I could believe that they could give a good rating. Overall, don't waste your time or your money, learn from my mistake.

I never write reviews, but I had to make an exception so that I could warn others not to waste their time and money at this restaurant. There is absolutely no hospitality, and the food is lackluster. They claim to play jazz but the music is only classic R&B and Soul Hits (old school ). The worst part of the whole experience was receiving an absurdly expensive bill after I was ignored and given bland food. I basically left there feeling like the owners, the cook, and the staff just don’t care, and expect you to be happy with a decent décor and plastic oriental flowers on the table (instead of salt and pepper to make the food taste good).

The meal was delicious! We were driving by and stopped for a meal. We had our food to go, so we didn't get to enjoy the atmosphere. The price was great for the quality and quantity. The dessert and the "soul" slaw was a bit too sweet for me, but everything else that I had was great.
