Sawaddee Thai-Sushi and Coffee Corner

6968 Bay Dr
Miami Beach, FL 33141
305-866-8111
“Sawaddee,” the customary Thai greeting, is an appropriate name for this warm, friendly Thai/sushi restaurant. A mere six tables – plus eight seats at the sushi bar – add to the intimacy. Portions are large; sharing will allow for a taste of many of the traditional Thai dishes as well as new variations. The Sawaddee Fresh Roll is a meal in itself: shrimp, lettuce, and basil wrapped in rice paper with a sweet, spicy peanut dipping sauce served at room temperature. If you order a spicy dish, the waiter will ask if you want it “Thai spicy.” Be forewarned: It’s meant only for the experienced. If spicy is your thing, don’t miss the Volcano Snapper, with not one but two deep-fried fillets resting on a bed of fresh vegetables and served with a sweet, hot chili sauce, filling your mouth with sensations of soft, crunchy, and spicy. The sushi menu offers all the usual choices, and owner/sushi chef Montri points out that no leftover fish from the previous day is ever used. With Thai/sushi places popping up all over, this one stands out in the crowd.
