R House chef and owner Rocco Carulli has had a longstanding love affair with Wynwood dating back to before the neighborhood exploded. He worked nine winters as a waiter at Wish, Tony Goldman's beloved, now-closed Miami Beach restaurant. Summers were spent running the kitchen at Edwige at Night on Cape Cod. In 2012 Carulli moved to Miami full time, determined to open a restaurant in Wynwood. What resulted was a hip place that's half restaurant and half art gallery. Abstract oil paintings hang on concrete slabs that can be moved to change the space's layout. The brief menu is a trip around the globe, reflective of time spent in Brazil and Carulli's Italian heritage. Try the corvina ceviche, a fresh, peppy mixture of fish, avocado, and corn relish. The braised lamb shank, large enough for a cameo on The Flinstones, is cooked until practically melting and doused in a fragrant wine reduction accompanied by an herby Israeli couscous.
