This all-you-can-stuff-your-gut-with Argentine steak house isn’t much to look at, but look at this instead: For a weeknight price of $24.95 (weekends $27.95), you can enjoy a basket of warm baguette slices; an extensive salad bar inclusive of Argentine appetizers such as tongue vinaigrette and flank steak roulades; limitless quantities of char-grilled meats off the parrilla (crisp sweetbreads, juicy chorizo, New York strip, entraña, short ribs, juicy chicken, dry pork loin); platters of rice, mashed potatoes, or crisp steak fries; and one dessert (go with the dulce de leche crêpes). Oh, one more thing: a free bottle of red or white wine for each and every diner (or two glasses of soda or two bottles of beer served with a frosted mug). Unlike at a traditional Brazilian rodizio eatery, where meat-hauling men meander from table to table offering their wares, Matador is self-serve, so you’ll have the opportunity to burn a calorie, maybe two, each time you rise for refills. Bravo to Matador for giving working-class residents the opportunity to eat, drink, and be merry in a grand yet affordable fashion.
