Although this contemporary South American market/café has a counter for eating in, its strong suit is party-perfect take-out. Components include an excellent bakery (with pastries and breads housemade by a Uruguayan chef whose years of experience in a Manhattan French bakery are evident); a counter of prepared foods, ranging from elegant Argentine tea sandwiches to full entrées; a cheese case; and market shelves packed with global gourmet products. Most unique is a mini butcher shop, which sells "preselected parrilladas" -- the classic Argentine mix of skirt steak, flap meat, short ribs, chicken, sweetbreads, chorizo, and blood sausage -- either raw and grill-ready or, for a pittance more, cooked and accompanied by vegetable sides and bread. Other meats, including pork loins and elaborate stuffed/rolled matambres, are also available. Whatever you choose, food comes packaged in elegant thermal bags that keep it warm, or cool, for hours.
