Although the name suggests the food at this comfy waterfront restolounge is Cuban, it is really more Cuban-inspired — lightened up and replete with little Nuevo Latino attempts at elegance: masitas de cerdo (fried pork chunks) finished with tamarind glaze; chicharrones with a choice of cilantro mojo or trendy chipotle mayo. Unless you’re set on a meal like Abuelita’s home cooking, many of the gentrified touches are improvements, like a house salad based on romaine (rather than standard Latin joints’ iceberg) and including avocado. Especially tasty is the stylish take on seafood mofongo, a big ball of deep-fried plantain mash that comes surrounded with shrimp, squid, mussels, salmon, and white fish, in a zesty, creamy-light creole sauce. Latin bands perform many nights and during Sunday brunch; at music-free times, eating peacefully at an outdoor table overlooking the adjacent marina is equally pleasant.
