Dewan serves Indian and Pakistani halal food on the north end of the county, just off the corner of NE 167th Street and North Miami Avenue. The dark, humble décor isn't much, but the fare is as good as that found in fancier joints. Bangladeshi owners are generally on hand to help serve the homemade dishes. Vegetable samosas shine here, as do other favorites such as chicken tandoori and lamb biryani. But diners can also partake of less familiar items such as a shami kebab - a surprisingly egg foo young-like lamb patty with piquant red chilies; nihari, a breakfast curry containing softly braised beef culled from the shank, which is enjoyed by Indian Muslim workers; and goat curry. Prices are way low: Most of the hefty plates of food go for less than $10.
