Barracuda is a place for college kids. Or for those who wish they were in college. Or for those who think that if they hang around enough college kids, they are allowed to act like them. The dive bar is decorated in a manner that makes it drunken-patron-proof. Nearly everything is made of wood. Beer signs, fishing gear, and sports memorabilia - specifically from the University of Miami - share wall space with random adornments such as a zebra head and foreign currency. There are even long tables perfect for beer pong tournaments situated in the back. Barracuda has been a Coconut Grove staple for more than a decade and appreciated by "college kids" of all ages. The neighborhood joint is widely known for its eight-hour happy hour, from noon to 8 p.m. Drinkers need not limit their happiness to 60 minutes here. Customers can order their choice of more than 50 beers at the massive bar. Domestic suds go for $2.50, imports cost $3.50, and pitchers are $8 to $12. For hungry drinkers, Barracuda offers a menu full of both fresh and fried munchies. The most popular item is called "the best snapper sandwich you've ever had period" ($10). The fish is grilled in a choice of seasoning, spread with tartar sauce, and sandwiched between two slices of garlic bread. Another favorite is Matt's grouper sandwich, which is prepared and presented the same way as the snapper. Although inebriated degree-seekers pack the spot nightly, Thursday is officially college night, and ladies' night is Friday.
