Ambrosia

1401 Simonton St
Key West, FL 33040
305-293-0304
Ambrosia is variously defined as the food of the gods — a salad of oranges, bananas, pineapple, and shredded coconut. You’d think gods would have better taste. For the rest of us, there’s another kind of Ambrosia. It’s a tiny Peruvian restaurant in Coconut Grove that turns out big portions of tasty, well-prepared food at very reasonable prices. Start with papas huancaina — potatoes smothered in a creamy cheese sauce — or a mountain of delicately cooked ceviche. Feed your seafood jones with “Seafood Delight,” an ocean of tender fish and shellfish in a mild “macho” sauce that becomes a lot more manly with the addition of incendiary housemade chili paste. For dessert be adventuresome and try babarrua, a fluffy, gelatin-firmed meringue studded with prunes.
