At this small bread shop (that also serves light lunch items and a small selection of wines), the menu's schedule of daily breads is unreliable. But the loaves themselves are far superior to supermarket-bakery stuff. Call ahead a day or two in advance, and more than two dozen choices (all made with no preservatives and unbleached flour or, for wheat-intolerent carb fans, gluten-free substitutes) can be yours. Recommended items range from excellent classic American white sandwich loaves to more unusual breads like whole-wheat bread with pepperoni-and-cheese-stuffed spirals (that cause slices to fall apart, but are very tasty). French, Italian, and British bread lovers will find no fault with the baguettes, ciabattas, and scones. And caramelized pecan-topped sticky buns are world-class.
