1826 Restaurant & Lounge is an all-glass, four-story standalone restaurant on Collins Avenue that adds a new level of style and fine dining to South Beach. The dining room, on the second floor, offers a throwback, mod style with pod chairs in a sleek and refined space. Awarding-winning chef Danny Grant separates the menu into the Harvest, the Hook, and the Hunt. In the Harvest section, the crunchy exterior of the leek croquettes ($10) counterbalances the oozing center comprising potato, mild sheep's-milk cheese, and a hint of black truffle. The short rib ($29), part of the Hunt, is exceptionally tender, cooked at a very low temperature for two full days before a trio of lemon zest, preserved lemon, and lemon oil lightens it up. Fried Brussels sprouts top the dish, and sunchokes sit below. 1826 is magnificent on multiple levels.
