Orange Cafe offers one of the coolest views of the Design District from its sidewalk seating. Inside, the restaurant is airy, and a winding staircase leads to ad-ditional tables on the second floor. Open for only breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday, it's a popular spot, but not usually packed. A small but satisfy-ing breakfast menu includes espresso and a variety of fresh-baked croissants served plain ($1.50) or filled with ham and cheese ($4.25), omelet and cheese ($4.25), chocolate, or apple ($2.00). Sandwiches are named after famous art-ists and feature fresh ingredients and quality cheeses. A Dali ($7.15 and $4.25 for a half) is a wonderful treat for vege-tarians and includes Parmesan cheese, avocado, tomato, spinach, basil, and olive oil. A Frida Kahlo ($7.75 and $4.65 for a half) is a twist on a BLT. It includes the b, l, and t, but also avocado and spicy mayonnaise. You can accompany your meal with a soup of the day ($4.75) and wine or beer.
