New Community Theater Opens in South Miami
Improv South Miami (ISM), a new theater located in South Miami that welcomes directors, actors, improvisers and local artists, will be hosting its grand opening on Saturday, August 22, 2015, from 8-10 p.m.
"We are so excited to be opening Improv South Miami, a non-profit organization focused on the local improv, arts and theater community. We want this theater space to be accessible for both established and up-and-coming theater and arts groups in South Florida,” said ISM founder Katrina Morris.
At ISM’s grand opening, house team Cage Free Humans, of which Morris is a member, will be headlining the entirely improvised comedy performance. Local improv teams Comedy School Dropouts and Miamah Comedy’s Battlecat will be opening for the show.
ISM was formed by Morris to provide low-cost rehearsal space and a free performance venue, with a percentage of funds raised going back to the performing artists. “The South Florida improv community is growing rapidly, with workshops and shows happening year-round. As the community grows, affordable rehearsal and performance space for independent teams are difficult to find,” she said.
