With the mercury topping thermometers this time of year, most Wynwood galleries are reaching into their stable of talent with ubiquitous summer group offerings designed to move merch from their deep freeze and into your living room. In other words, for many local spaces, it’s the perfect time for a seasonal fire sale. But at the Diana Lowenstein Gallery (2043 N. Miami Ave., Miami), the “2013 Summer Show” actually has something to offer other than the typical blue-light special pitched by a desperate dealer praying to match a wage slave’s wallet and that ratty couch. On view as part of this month’s sweltering Second Saturday Art Walk, beginning at 7 p.m., are seven of the gallery’s top names, including chameleon-like Peruvian artist Cecilia Paredes, whose photo-based images depict her melting into the wildly inventive environmental or dreamy celestial landscapes she creates. If your tastes run to grittier climes, check out Rome’s Fabiano Parisi, whose poetic images of abandoned urban locations bristle with a mysterious air evoking the surreal. Brooklyn-based artist Sterz weighs in with atmospheric opuses waxing on the existential human condition and themes as disparate as time, sex, joy, despair, love, and disease.
