I Can’t Believe it’s Butter!

BY CARLOS SUAREZ DE JESUS

I Can’t Believe it’s Butter!

Not unlike Saint Paul, Francisco De La Torre has had an epiphany: For serious art converts, all roads lead to Wynwood.

So after three years in the wilderness, he’s fleeing the margarine confines of Coconut Grove and praying for the rebirth of his Butter Gallery at the grittier corner of NW 2nd Avenue and NW 23rd Street. This Friday at 7 p.m., he opens his new space with “Sacrificial Offering,” a solo show by Rick Falcon, whose work explores the toll exacted upon creative types suffering long working hours alone.

“Rick is an artist who paints seven days a week, often up to ten hours a day,” De La Torre says. “He was looking at history to inform his concept and referenced Jesus and the martyrs in a low-brow fashion for this show.” Hallelujah! Let Butter and its apostle’s entreaties be answered. The opening is free.
