ArtCenter/South Florida and the Miami Beach Cinematheque invite you to the screening of Thom Andersen's classic "Los Angeles Plays Itself" and Oliver Laric's piece "Untitled 2014-2015." Admission is free with Eventbrite RSVP. From its distinctive neighborhoods to its architectural homes, Los Angeles has been the backdrop to countless movies. In this dazzling work, Andersen takes viewers on a whirlwind tour through the metropolis real and cinematic history, investigating the myriad stories and legends that have come to define it, and meticulously, judiciously revealing the real city that lives beneath. Oliver Laric’s "Untitled 2014-15" re-draws sequences of humans morphing into animals from found footage culled from hundreds of animations, from countries including Japan, South Korea, China, Austria, Germany, the U.S., and more. The film addresses larger questions about the transubstantiation of figurative form in animation and continues Laric’s exploration of ideas of versioning with contemporary culture, focusing on the way images are mined, remixed, and adopted in new and unexpected contexts in today’s creative production.
