ArtCenter/South Florida invites you to the Opening Reception of "Kill Joy Forest" a solo exhibition by ArtCenter alumna Veronique Cote. The reception will be followed by a free screening of the original King Kong movie, presented in collaboration with O Cinema Wynwood.
Born in Quebec, Miami-based artist and ArtCenter Alumna Veronique Cote works in textile, photography, drawing and painting to create sketches of America from the point of view of a foreigner.
The works presented in this exhibition are inspired by myths, fairy tales and iconic movies. Together they form a series of distorted happy endings that use popular characters in an ironic way in order to talk about societies of consumption and exclusion. Grouped around 3 large paintings, Here My Pretties, Killjoy Swirl, and Willy Nilly, these works speak to America’s ability to be wondrous, beautiful, scary and ridiculous all at the same time.
