This is a learning and living series providing practical health and wellness information to improve daily living via integrative approaches to healthy living and wellness. Presented by the Sacred Space Miami in collaboration with The Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine on The Sacred Space Miami Campus. During this workshop, we will discuss the definition and background of mindfulness and mindfulness based programs. The latest research on the neuroscience of mindfulness and the brain areas that are known to change with mindfulness training will be discussed. Then experience a mindfulness practice guided by Dr. Castellanos, followed by inquiry, dialogue, and a Q&A. Bring a notebook or pad, a pen, yoga mats, cushions, and a blanket. Gus Castellanos, M.D., is a retired Neurologist (UM Med class 1980) and mindfulness program teacher since 2009 that is trained by the UMass Center For Mindfulness and UM’s Neuroscience Lab. He currently teaches at a variety of facilities, including Sari Center for Integrative Cancer Care, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, The Mindful Path, UHealth Fitness Center and has facilitated programs for Mindful Kids Miami, FIU College of Medicine, the Hanley Treatment Center, Jupiter Police Dept., U.S. Army, and Hospice of Palm Beach County.
