?alf conceptual, half narrative, McGinn’s newest work seeks to blur, morph and hybridize the known. Ing an Die is McGinn's "dramatic" debut, concluding a decade-long research surrounding the Wagnerian notion of a gesamtkunstwerk, meaning total or universal artwork.
McGinn started to develop this piece in Florida about 8 years ago. He comes back today to present the world premiere of Ing an Die at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County. The piece is a duet developed into a triptic, an exploration of senses where dance is both medium and message. A shape-shifting love story, Ing an Die weaves choreographic languages with symbolic imagery to disrupt binary structures found within art and society at large: traditional vs. contemporary, masculine vs. feminine, organic subject vs. synthetic object. McGinn returns home to his native Florida from Paris for his operatic debut after a decade of global touring with leading choreographers of contemporary performance: Jonah Bokaer, Miguel Gutierrez, John Jasperse & Ryan McNamara, among others.
