Employing elements of both classical painting and magical realism, Edouard Duval-Carrié explores the culture and history of his home in 37 new paintings and sculptures collected by PhD and professor of Africana Studies at Brown University, Anthony Bogues. "Metamorphosis" continues the artist's scrutiny of Haiti's contemporary social and political issues through the Caribbean nation's traditions and iconography. At this reception, you can meet the Miami-based artist while perusing his newest work. 7 p.m. Thursday at the Museum of Contemporary Art, 770 NE 125th St., North Miami; 305-893-6211; mocanomi.org.
