http://www.caldwelltheatre.com Nestled in the luxurious Count de Hoernle Theatre on the border of Boca Raton and Delray Beach, the Caldwell is South Florida's oldest professional theater company, and it remains one of the largest in terms of audience capacity. The quality of work various from modern masterpieces to head-shaking misfires. But since artistic director Clive Cholerton inherited the theater's reins a couple of years back, the material has been anything but predictable, including avant-garde world-premiere musicals and fresh-off-Broadway dramas to experimental literary adaptations. The auditorium's video projection system, employed in just about every show, has brought the Caldwell to the forefront of theatre's technological vanguard. More >>
http://www.empirestage.com If you don't get lost looking for Empire Stage for the first time, then congratulations: You'd be the first. But this playhouse's locational obscurity is actually part of its charm; just as with Sol Theatre, the building's previous occupant, Empire Stage remains the best-kept secret in the South Florida theater scene. Artistic director David Gordon specializes in offbeat comedies with an LGBT slant, but even when his company isn't producing anything, he lends out the space to other producers to help keep the threadbare operation in business. Even when the plays occasionally crater, the funky, DIY interior design and free wine make it a fun place to visit. More >>

http://www.gusmancenter.org Old is the new new. Especially in a city like Miami, where historic charms are often bulldozed to make way for new school crap. Thank God for the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts, a shining beacon to Miami's glamorous past, smack dab in the middle of downtown. Erected in 1926 as a home for silent movies, this recently restored palace oozes charisma, from the red velvet curtains to the baroque balconies. The theater's simulated night-sky ceiling has looked down on the likes of Elvis Presley, B.B. King, Luciano Pavarotti and countless other notable names. Today, they host movie screenings, concerts, live performances and a whole host of other events. So get glammed up and spend an evening immersed in what once was. There's something to be said for the classics, after all. More >>
