  • Casa Panza Cafe

    Casa Panza Cafe

    1620 SW 8th St. Miami, FL 33135
    305-644-3444

http://www.casapanzacafe.net A Calle Ocho institution for decades and something of a tourist trap, Casa Panza is as much an entertainment destination as a place to enjoy Spanish cuisine and tapas -- think of this as Medieval Times for flamenco enthusiasts. From outside, it looks like an 18th or 19th century mansion squashed in between other Eighth Street storefronts. There are faux balconies and windows, a red tile roof, and old English letters spelling out the name. Spanish tiles frame the bottom half of the structure. Inside, it's more of a fortress or maybe a cave. Uneven, sand-colored plaster that forms the walls and ceiling creates that effect. The restaurant was closed for several months, and it has reopened under new management. Service was always a weak point for the place, and this seems to have improved under the new administration. Nevertheless, expect crowds and a festive atmosphere more attuned to the entertainment than the food. More >>

  • Do-Re-Mi Music Center

1829 SW Eighth St. Miami, FL 33135
    305-541-3374

Miami's as close to Latin America as it's possible to get - both physically and culturally. So it's no surprise that our city would have a spot like Do-Re-Mi Music Center, where the most obscure Latin tunes go to hide. They've got everything from music legends like Sandro and Celia Cruz to mainstream reggaeton and everything in between at this Little Havana outpost. And it's all on cds, vinyl, cassettes - whatever format floats your boat. Instruments, too. So if you're into Latin tunes - or you wanna be - this is a harmonious place to hang. More >>
