    The Talent Farm Studios

20911 Johnson St. Pembroke Pines, FL 33029
    954-438-3488

http://www.thetalentfarm.com Nestled in a shopping center in the far reaches of Pembroke Pines. Sure, it's so far west it's practically in the swamp, but it's the hub of a very thriving microscene of mostly young bands whose names often form complete sentences. The place will give almost anyone a first shot at playing live, but at the same time, it boasts a more professional stage setup and sound system than most bars back on the beaten local-circuit path. And the Talent Farm is more clued-in about the internet than most local venues: It streams all its shows online for free, recognizing that will draw more of a crowd in the long run. Nurturing tomorrow's local favorites today, the Talent Farm truly lives up to its name. More >>

    Titanic Brewery and Restaurant

5813 Ponce de Leon Blvd. Coral Gables, FL 33146
    305-668-1742

http://www.titanicbrewery.com This brewpub across the way from the University of Miami is owned by beer lover Kevin Rusk, who makes it a point to pour good, homemade suds to accompany great live music. Since the place opened in the Nineties, the menu hasn't changed an iota. The seasonal brews are always a delight: The Triple Screw is a fail-safe standby, and the guest-starring Woodchuck cider tastes like frothy heaven. Generously sized empanada appetizers boast tasty meat interiors and flaky pastry exteriors. Other standouts include crawfish-and-andouille bisque, and steamed mussels "fra diablo." On a recent visit, the steerage skirt steak sandwich came dangerously rare in the middle, but the Santa Fe chicken salad, with creamy garlic dill dressing, was crunchy and delicious. Dinner entrée prices top out at $17.95, which will nab you either a rib eye steak or soft-shell crabs, and $14.95 for shrimp étoufée is a steal. Rotating rock bands and slurring coeds are regular fixtures. The Sunday night karaoke delivers a hearty dose of Journey and Sublime. More >>

  • Tryst

    Tryst

4 E. Atlantic Ave. Delray Beach, FL 33444
    561-921-0201

http://www.trystdelray.com Executive chef Julian Greaves, formerly of Sol Kitchen, has put together a menu of small plates, bar food, comfort food, and bistro classics that pairs exquisitely with the excellent list of 50-plus, personality-forward craft beers. With input from a quartet of restaurant-savvy owners (Rodney Mayo and Scott Freilich, who own Dada, the Dubliner, and Howley's Diner; Butch Johnson from 32 East next door; and Dave Robinson of Delux nightclub), he's created dishes as aromatic, intense, and highly seasoned as these beautiful beers, matching them stride for stride with nightly specials (seared black cod, pork tenderloin), small plates (fish tacos, Indian spiced lamb chops, fish and chips), and chef's favorites (foie gras with bread pudding, pad Thai). Go early or midweek if you want time and space to eat and explore the beer list at leisure: Weekends are a madhouse. More >>
