http://www.grandcentralmiami.com The Garret is a secret hideaway club within downtown indie hot-spot Grand Central. It has its own side entrance (use 7th street), and a steep flight of stairs, so watch your footwork. The bar is dark, the drinks are cold, and the intimate room hosts artists and DJs well into the early morning. More >>
http://www.gingerbaycafefl.com Ginger Bay Café is known for its smooth Caribbean vibe, featuring tunes as spicy as the jerk chicken. With live music five nights a week, you've got several options to choose from. Wednesdays at the Bay is "dance hall night." Thursdays feature soca and calypso music. Round out the weekend with reggae on Friday and Saturday nights, and wind down to jazz on Sundays. Ginger Bay Café is the only Caribbean restaurant in downtown Hollywood, so where else would you go to satisfy your craving for good times and island food? This late-night club-crawl stop-off point serves spicy jerk chicken, whole fried fish, and potent-as-hell rum drinks. Not the kind of place for quiet dinner conversations and soft lighting, this lively Caribbean hangout comes equipped with DJs blaring reggae, hip-hop, and R&B and live bands playing into the wee hours. http://www.greenroomlive.com The multilevel Green Room is the latest addition to the America's Backyard/Revolution family, providing the downtown Fort Lauderdale locale with a unique nighttime hangout. Although chic in décor with white leather couches, fancy lighting systems, and Marie Antoinette-style chandeliers, the attitude is far from that of red-velvet roped-off club. An enormous dance floor fills up the center of the club where the local hip 20-somethings gyrate to indie sounds and electro beats. Adjacent is the stage, often filled with musical acts from the local area, and the occasional burlesque troupe performance by the Reckless Dames. Newly installed is the venue's art gallery, a place for South Florida's up-and-coming artists to showcase their talent during weekly event "Gallery Saturdays." Focusing less on the VIP club concept, the Green Room is Fort Lauderdale's answer to a laid-back night of good times and dancing with friends. More >>
http://www.gusmancenter.org Old is the new new. Especially in a city like Miami, where historic charms are often bulldozed to make way for new school crap. Thank God for the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts, a shining beacon to Miami's glamorous past, smack dab in the middle of downtown. Erected in 1926 as a home for silent movies, this recently restored palace oozes charisma, from the red velvet curtains to the baroque balconies. The theater's simulated night-sky ceiling has looked down on the likes of Elvis Presley, B.B. King, Luciano Pavarotti and countless other notable names. Today, they host movie screenings, concerts, live performances and a whole host of other events. So get glammed up and spend an evening immersed in what once was. There's something to be said for the classics, after all. More >>
