A Calle Ocho institution for decades and something of a tourist trap, Casa Panza is as much an entertainment destination as a place to enjoy Spanish cuisine and tapas -- think of this as Medieval Times for flamenco enthusiasts. From outside, it looks like an 18th or 19th century mansion squashed in between other Eighth Street storefronts. There are faux balconies and windows, a red tile roof, and old English letters spelling out the name. Spanish tiles frame the bottom half of the structure. Inside, it's more of a fortress or maybe a cave. Uneven, sand-colored plaster that forms the walls and ceiling creates that effect. The restaurant was closed for several months, and it has reopened under new management. Service was always a weak point for the place, and this seems to have improved under the new administration. Nevertheless, expect crowds and a festive atmosphere more attuned to the entertainment than the food. More >>
http://www.churchillspub.com Miami is sorely lacking in decent rock clubs, so Churchill's is home to many a scruffy punker who is too real for South Beach. A pair of pool tables, a large room for bands, and a sizable outdoor patio help house the mainland rock faithful. More >>

Mostly though, it's a place on Biscayne Boulevard to have a drink, a fine meal, and to enjoy the smooth sounds from the stage. More >>
http://www.cruzanamphitheatre.net By any other name -- say Coral Sky, MARS, Sound Advice, the Snuggles Fabric Softener Bear Arena -- this gigantic outdoor shed now called the Cruzan Amphitheatre would still sound as sweet. However, unlike the big, open-air venues up north, ours is available year-round. Music seems to sound better out-of-doors, and Cruzan provides plenty of room to mill about on a giant manicured hillside lawn, plus massive video screens so concertgoers won't miss anything. Among the acts that have played there: Peter Gabriel, Motley Crue, Radiohead, and Pearl Jam. Who can beat that? Sure, the overpriced concessions aren’t the most rock 'n' roll aspect of this experience, but Cruzan is our shed, and we can go see a show there in the middle of December, so nyah-nyah-nyah. More >>
http://www.cultureroom.net It's hot, loud, and way too crowded. But would you expect anything less from a rock club? The Culture Room books an eclectic mix of bands. On any given week they might have David Allan Coe, the Misfits, Johnny Winter, a local group of hardcore rockers, and northern Europe's meanest-sounding death metal makers. What sets the Culture Room apart from the other hot and sweaty clubs around, though, isn't necessarily what goes on atop the large stage; it's the nice, refreshing atmosphere just outside the main concert room. If you don't care so much about seeing your favorite rock stars up close, in the flesh, you can still rock out a few feet away, under the beautiful Florida sky — and watch a video projection of the show while you sip a beer. Or if you're really hardcore, as you pound Jägermeister and break the bottle over your own head. More >>
