Club Boi is the only black-owned gay club in South Florida, and it serves as a welcome alternative to the same old stuff on South Beach. There is nude male dancing, and the vibe is hot. Even for heteros, this club is a good time. Get out of the closet and get down at Club Boi. Read more about Club Boi >>

  • Discotekka

    Discotekka

    950 NE 2nd Ave. Miami, FL 33132
    305-371-3773

http://www.discotekka.com This downtown gay club is located in an enormous old warehouse next door to its hetero sister club, Mekka. Literally the size of an airplane hangar, Discotekka is a wildcard in the Miami gay world, and an alternative to the more touristy and stereotypical South Beach boy bars. Discotekka stays open all night, through the morning, into the afternoon, and all the way into the next night. The three-room space features seating areas; bottle specials; dancing trannies; theme-night parties; and pop, house, reggaeton, and hip-hop music. The cover is rarely under $10. It's also less of a tourist draw than the SoBe clubs, which, if you're looking for more than a one-night stand, is a very good thing. Read more about Discotekka >>

  • Magnum Lounge

    Magnum Lounge

709 NE 79th St. Causeway Miami, FL 33138
    305-757-3368

http://www.facebook.com/magnumlounge With its red-lit interior, lounge atmosphere, and American cuisine, nowhere else says old-time Miami quite like Magnum. This classic bar and restaurant is located on the 79th Street Causeway and is known as a hot spot for older gay gentlemen. When Liza Minnelli and Nina Simone aren't blasting over the speakers, a live crooner and pianist re-create Broadway's best in the small stage area at the center of the venue. Surrounding the piano are barstools where patrons swoon to songs by Rodgers & Hammerstein. Magnum is also known for its homestyle fried chicken ($18.50), and people travel far and wide to munch on its crisp goodness. When it's in season, try the avocado with crab appetizer ($15.95). And puttanesca pasta ($15.95) will fill you up before you hit the Shack Bar outside, where you can drink the night away on a dime. The bar is a little Cape Cod and a little Key West, making you feel like you're on vacation without leaving town. There's a TV set, fun music, and a half-off beer-and-booze happy hour that runs daily from 5 to 8. There are also $4 margaritas and bloody marys and $3 roadkill shots so you can stay lu-bricated, as Lionel Richie says, all night long. Read more about Magnum Lounge >>

  • The Palace Bar & Restaurant

    The Palace Bar & Restaurant

1200 Ocean Drive Miami Beach, FL 33139
    305-531-7234

http://www.palacesouthbeach.com Stop by the Palace for a very South Beach experience. The place puts on drag shows every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and offers a Sunday "Brunchic." For the $30 brunch, guests get unlimited mimosas and a menu that changes weekly, rotating steak, salmon, pancakes, and other brunch fare. Also of note is the Palace burger ($10.95), featuring a turkey patty topped with chipotle aioli and served with fries or salad. The Palace also proffers assorted salads, sandwiches, and wraps. Food here is generally of higher quality and lower cost than at other eateries on Ocean Drive. The restaurant is split into two bars: one indoor and designed for nighttime use, and the other semi-outdoors. There is also a patio laid out with dining tables. Entertaining drag queens make the service friendly. Call ahead for the drag show during Sunday brunch. Read more about The Palace Bar & Restaurant >>

  • Ramrod

    Ramrod

1508 NE Fourth Ave. Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304
    954-763-8219

http://www.ramrodbar.com Leather and light spirits, despite the serious sexual energy and sex-toy shop, make this indoor/outdoor bar a great place to hang out -- or to pick up. Ramrod is basically the "Cheers" of Wilton Manors. There's something intriguing about bear culture that draws people in, whether you're a bear or not. Cub, bear, otter, or anything in between, it doesn't matter; the moment you walk into Ramrod, you can sense a community. In den-like fashion, the bar is dark, there are gargoyle statues everywhere, and they play minimal house music that's so old that it's already on trend again -- but, then again, you’re not there for the music anyway. • Score Nightclub

1437 Washington Ave. Miami Beach, FL 33139
    305-535-1111

http://www.scorebar.net Adonis is in the house, South Beach style. Good luck getting past the attitude, though. Since its inception Score has been the epicenter of the well-coifed and tightly muscled set, and it can be tough to break into those tight-knit cliques, though things get looser as the night goes on. • Twist

    Twist

1057 Washington Ave. Miami Beach, FL 33139
    305-538-9478

http://www.twistsobe.com A mainstay on Washington Avenue for over 15 years, Twist is the mother hen of South Beach gay clubs. Inside the spacious club you'll find seven different bars; a tiki bar, something called a "Frolic Lounge," a salsa room in the bottom floor, and a house music dance floor at the top. Still one of the few places where you can find go-go dancers at midnight on the beach, Twist is open seven days a week from 1 p.m. to 5 a.m. It's conveniently located near the popular 12th street gay beach, and the 11th street diner where Will Smith's "Miami" was shot. No cover, and open to 21+ only. Read more about Twist >>
