  • Do Not Sit on the Furniture

Do Not Sit on the Furniture

    423 16th St. Miami Beach, FL 33139
    510-550-5067

https://www.facebook.com/DoNotSit The philosophy of this beat-freak hangout is right there in the name: If you're sitting, you're not dancing, and dancing is the whole point. That's why revelers looking for a grittier party experience in SoBe have been flocking to the latest dimly lit dancehall in town, affectionately referred to as Don't Sit. House heads have come to love the no-nonsense atmosphere in a space that's both charming and imaginative without being frilly and over-the-top. All right, the giant carnival ride light-up wheel dangling from the ceiling might be a lot, but when it's not blinking, you can hardly see the person grooving in front of you. The club has churned out great theme nights such as Rewind — a classic-house party — and killer acts like Francis Harris and DJ Behrouz. Combined with an underground feel that even Miami's hard-to-please fans can appreciate, there's little danger of anyone disobeying this club's driving mantra. Who would want to prop his feet up on the sofa anyway with beats like these rocking his brain? More >>

  • Jazid

    Jazid

1342 Washington Ave. Miami Beach, FL 33139
    305-673-9372

http://www.jazid.net When we say "hole-in-the-wall," we mean it in a good way. This little bar has an upper and lower level, with different bands and DJs playing music until the sun comes up. It feels like a rehearsal studio for up-and-coming rock stars. But there are dance floors and fully stocked bars on both floors. Check out the huge statue of Buddha on the second floor. Rub his belly for good luck and realize that this place is poppin'. More >>

  • Kukaramakara

    Kukaramakara

    1250 S. Miami Ave. Miami, FL 33130
    305-577-7779

http://www.kukaramakara.com "La casa de los artistas" is the slogan Kukaramakara uses to promote itself — and it's hard to argue with that self-assessment. In a city where people bow to the temple of the DJ, it's refreshing to see a live music club stake a claim on prime real estate in Brickell. However, live music alone doesn't make for a great Latin nightclub — most Latin clubs employ some kind of live instrumentation. Kukaramakara has set itself apart by doing it well for several years. The Colombian import started out on NE 11th Street in the old Studio A space. But when the posh South American crowds shied away from the dicey area, Kukaramakara made the best decision by packing up and moving to the city's South American expat epicenter of Brickell. Their live bands keep true to the target audience, employing mainly Colombian and Venezuelan musicians who are able to keep the Latin club vibe 100 percent authentic. Drinks are pricey here, but Miamians don't go to the club to eat and slam booze. Enjoy a moderately priced happy hour at one of the countless places nearby and then head to Kukaramakara for the real draw: shaking your ass to live jams until you can pronounce "merengue" like a native, rolled r and all. • La Covacha

    La Covacha

    10730 NW 25th St. Doral, FL 33172

The main room features Latin-flavored techno music, and its outdoor patio packs a throng of sweaty and well-dressed partiers. Or escape to the air-conditioned, glass-enclosed VIP room. More >>

  • LIV

    LIV

4441 Collins Ave. Miami Beach, FL 33140
    305-674-4680

http://www.livnightclub.com/ Located in the luxe Fontainebleau, LIV is upscale and known for its glamorous oomph. The VIP section is separated with velvet ropes and tight security. Balloon ceiling fixtures and lights displaying an array of trippy colors animate the large main space. The lower level houses a dance floor, and the upper level boasts a bar to congregate. DJs spin house music as well as some Top 40. LIV holds events that include special guest star DJs, live entertainment, and occasional celebrities. Unless you know someone that knows someone, expect an admission fee. A very strict door policy can make entry difficult, so make sure to dress to impress. More >>

  • Mansion

    Mansion

1235 Washington Ave. Miami Beach, FL 33119
    305-695-8411

http://www.mansionmiami.com If one nightclub epitomizes South Beach fun and excess, it's Mansion. Mansion features all the South Beach nightclub staples: strict door policy, pricey cover, and bottle service. But where it excels is booking the hottest electronic dance and hip-hop acts week after week, no matter the time of year. Then there's the opulence of it all: The foyer leads to a small alcove that eventually takes you to the main area. There, the private balcony that hosts ultra-VIPs and celebrities overlooks the main floor. But dance-floor space is limited. Mansion was one of the first clubs to place couches and tables for bottle service directly on the dance floor. More >>
