http://www.berriesinthegrove.com Dining in a Miami restaurant could be compared to picking wild berries. Some are unripe, some are rotten, some prick you like thorns, and some, like blackberries, are delightfully unique but come with a few pesky seeds. The last describes Berries, a friendly spot that's morphed from a laid-back, take-out wraps and smoothies window to a hip, bustling, hippie-centric café complete with a bohemian ambiance that includes hanging lanterns and a tree planted in the center of the dining room. This place doesn't try to break new culinary ground but succeeds at placing well-prepared, generously sized, and relatively healthful dishes on the table. For starters, try the creamy hummus or crisp fried calamari; then move on to pasta, such as Berries' tasty pumpkin ravioli, or if you're feeling carnivorous, the skirt steak ($19), which comes smothered in blue cheese and is accompanied by potatoes and grilled asparagus. Only qualm: The $10 goat cheese wrap undoubtedly appealed to the taste buds but comprised mostly lettuce. Still, Berries' vibe, the massive portions, and a ladies' night where those with XX chromosomes drink free well alcohol every Thursday from 9 till close more than makes up for a that. This place makes 42 specialty martinis using a variety of vodkas, infusions, fruits, sodas, and, of course, olives. It's a sexy lounge that offers live entertainment and is open seven nights a week. Wine and champagne are available by the bottle or in "splits" (half-bottles from a limited menu). There are light snacks, flatbreads, and signature dishes such as lobster tacos made to order. Check out one of the weekly themed parties or karaoke nights. Read more about this Miami bar or club >>
http://www.bougiesbar.com Every night feels like a house party at this bar that resembles a wooden cottage. The front porch is quiet enough for conversation and sipping Patrón on ice. Inside the dark bar, there are always live bands jamming while people dance and drink. The back patio features another bar and hookahs available for smoking. This place rules! If your stomach is growling as loudly as the saucy cougar who's trying to persuade you to buy her one of this joint's notoriously stiff martinis, you shouldn't shy away from the menu. Because the food listed inside is high-quality pub fare. All the usual suspects are here: burgers, chicken fingers, fries. The French dip ($9.95)? It's the dippiest. Speaking of things that are French, there are also frogs' legs in garlic butter ($18.95), hopping with flavor. And the fried chicken? Well, let's just say you'll be licking your fingers - kind of like what will happen after a few more drinks with said cougar. So slink on in for some clandestine fun, good grub, and maybe, just maybe, a roll in the big-cat hay. Read more about this Miami bar or club >>
http://www.bierhaus.cc After closing his short-lived upscale-food venture, Da Capo (an odd Floribbean/Creole/Mediterranean/Austrian joint), chef/owner Harald Neuberg redesigned this large room to serve the stuff for which he became beloved at the old Mozart Stube: traditional German and Austrian fare, in a convivial college-sports-bar ambiance complete with servers in St. Pauli Girl garb. Schnitzels are superior. So are sausages, available as entrées or in tapas-style portions. There's one special each night, and Wednesday offers a worthy haxen abend -- a roast pork shank roughly the size of Everglades National Park. But dieters are also well served with a mixed salatteller of three salads. Choice is up to the diner, but a combo of gurken (cucumber), shredded karrotten (carrot), and kraut (white cabbage) is highly recommended, owing to their balanced, not-too-vinegary marinades that allow the veggies' individual flavors to come through. Naturally, there's a good selection of hefty German beers, which makes Fritz & Franz's annual Oktoberfest party the most fun and authentic in town. Try the Koenig Ludwig Weisbier, the Warsteiner, or Das Boot -- two liters of the amber brew poured into a giant glass boot so coveted by regulars that you must leave your driver's license as insurance that the restaurant will get it back. http://www.littlehoolies.com Though it has everything you'd expect from a Irish sports bar-three pool tables, more than 30 TVs, a full kitchen and bar and plenty of jocks, Little Hoolie's distinguishes itself from other south Miami-Dade bars by serving as one of the only legitimate live music venues in the neighborhood surrounding the Falls. There is a decent-sized stage smack dab in the middle of the bar and plenty of tables for appreciative crowds. Live music (mostly hard rock) plays on Fridays and Saturdays, with a weekly open mic night and band tryouts on Thursdays. There is also a DJ spinning on Monday night and Kara-O-King Karaoke on ladies night on Wednesday starting at 9 p.m. To get the already rowdy crowd into more of a fervor, Tuesday nights is Lingerie Night which speaks for itself.
