Sports and the sea collide at this sunken ship of a locals bar. Pirate paraphernalia and random sports equipment litter the walls and ceilings giving off a friendly hole in the wall atmosphere.
Wall Lounge

Wall Lounge

The entrance to Wall Lounge is located right outside the garden at the W Hotel on South Beach. Design elements include light shows on the walls, frosted glass doors in the bathrooms, and high ceilings.

    Studio

1801 Collins Ave. Miami Beach, FL 33139
    305-695-1770

http://www.louiestudiosouthbeach.com This spot was our 2003 "Best Karaoke" Bar. Studio let's their often belligerent guests let loose and have fun. There's no cover to enter but in order to belt it out you must buy a drink. Not much has changed since the days of '03, so here is word for word the reason they became our top pick: This is a weirdly cool place. The dim lighting, black paint peeling off the walls, and wobbly stage decorated by guitars, horns, and drum sets sit in stark contrast to the bright and busy milieu just outside on Collins Avenue. The portraits on the wall pay homage to recording stars of yesteryear, Elvis, Dean, and Frank among others, but the spotlight glares mostly for young hipsters prodded into belting out popular tunes as recent as 50 Cent's "In Da Club." The best time to visit is in the wee hours of the morning. You'll hear the strained crooning even before you enter; that's when hopped-up club hoppers usually drop in to see if they can be an American Idol, even if it's just in front of friends and barflies. Speaking of American Idols, last year's runner-up, Justin Guarini, is a regular there. He likes to show off and without Kelly or Simon around, he's always the best in the room. The true draw, though, are the drunken buffoons who muddle the spelled-out words to "Red, Red Wine." Don't be afraid to get up onstage. You might sound as good as you do in the shower. Ronnie, the Regis look-alike at the helm of the PA system, takes requests -- but don't be pushy, he can be a little impatient with rabble-rousers. Read more about this Miami bar or club >>

http://www.mondrian-miami.com Located in the Mondrian South Beach, the Sunset Lounge offers breathtaking views of Biscayne Bay and a whimsical but chic setting. Lounge in a cabana from day to night and you'll hear the music transition from worldly jazz to neosoul house. This unique ambiance, along with the Sunset Lounge's creative drink menu, won the venue New Times' 2009 Best Place to Get a Cocktail. Read more about this Miami bar or club >>

  • Sushi Samba

    Sushi Samba

600 Lincoln Road Miami Beach, FL 33139
    305-673-5337

http://www.sushisamba.com Consistency is not only the hobgoblin of little minds but also of Miami restaurants, many of which can't seem to turn out even the simplest of dishes with consistent quality. That is what makes the five-year-old Sushi Samba even more impressive. Not only is the food some of the sexiest and most exciting in South Florida, but also you can count on it being just as good at your next visit as it was on your last. Sushi and sashimi are never short of impeccably fresh and well prepared, while such familiar dishes as anticuchos, tiraditos, churrasco and, crisp-fried whole snapper are tasty because of first-rate ingredients and precise execution. But the more adventurous dishes take Sushi Samba to another level: from the daring simplicity of sawagani -- tiny flash-fried Japanese river crabs that you eat shell, legs, and all -- to the over-the-top opulence of tuna sushi rolls topped with foie gras and gold leaf and subtly scented with shiso leaf. • SushiSamba Dromo

    SushiSamba Dromo

600 Lincoln Road Miami Beach, FL 33139-2916
    305-673-5337

http://www.sushisamba.com SushiSamba Dromo is the less talked about older sister of Sugarcane Raw Bar Grill. It's a warm and stylish space with a dominant sushi bar occupying the center. The room is so imbued in an orange hue that if Mario Batali ever removed his trademark clogs here, he'd never find them. Michael Bloise (Wish, American Noodle Bar), executive chef these days, has perked things up, but the long-underrated cuisine hasn't been tinkered with much. Japan, Brazil, and Peru are still the spheres of gastronomic import (Chef Bloise is French/Vietnamese). The menu offers all sorts of possibilities, starting with "aperitivos" and small plates. Don’t miss crisp tempura green beans with black truffle-garlic aioli; a Xin-Xim of rock shrimp-stuffed chicken breast; or braised oxtail gyoza. Also on tab are ceviches, tiraditos, sushi, sashimi, creative rolls, and other raw bar offerings. Also steaks, proffered in churrasco form or Wagyu. For dessert, go with suspiro limeño, a dulce de leche flan layered with port cake and crowned with roasted meringue ice cream and almond crumble. Tuesday-night cosplay, a long-time Samba tradition, is when people dressed in outrageously wacky costumes act out some inner character while whirling awkwardly about the room. Actually, this occurs nightly here -- it being located in South Beach and all -- but Tuesdays it gets synched to music. SushiSamba is fun, but the cuisine makes it more than just another pretty face. • T-Mex Tacos

    T-Mex Tacos

    235 14th St. Miami Beach, FL 33139
    305-538-3009

http://www.t-mex.net Choose beef, chicken, or vegetarian, wrap it in a flour or corn tortilla, specify mild, medium, or hot sauce, and you've built your own taco (or burrito, enchilada, or quesadilla) to specifications. The chili is as hot as a mid-July day, and the chicken soup, about as comforting as South Beach gets, is stocked with breast meat, onions, peppers, and crushed jalapeños -- while not exactly designed for the sickbed, it'll certainly clear your sinuses. Lunch, dinner, and late night. Read more about this Miami bar or club >>

  • Wet Willie

    Wet Willie's

760 Ocean Drive Miami Beach, FL 33139
    305-532-5650

http://www.wetwillies.com The bar at Wet Willie's offers a wide selection of blended alcoholic beverages that are prepared behind the counter in slushy style. Patrons can plop down on the first floor, but the seating on the second-floor deck provides a view of the street and beach. The atmosphere is laid-back and fun, with quirky spray-painted walls, some featuring penguins. Wet Willie's strength lies in its frozen drinks, most notably the Call-a-Cab ($10 for large), made with diesel 153 grain alcohol, rum, and cherry flavoring. Also popular is the Superman ($10 for large), a mix of Call-a-Cab and Shock Treatment (same as Call-a-Cab but with lemonade flavoring). The best dishes here are appetizers such as chicken strips and fries ($9.95), consisting of fried boneless tenders served with Willie's own sweet-and-spicy barbecue sauce and chive-honey mustard sauce. Other typical items include fish fingers and fries ($9.95), made from white fish and served with Cajun tartar sauce. Service is friendly. Willie's is ideal for capping off a relaxing day at the beach or complementing a night out at South Beach clubs. Read more about this Miami bar or club >>
