Gramps

Gramps

In addition to the air conditioning, cold beer and cocktails as their entrance advertises, Wynwood's Gramps is home to lots more. Like rock acts on the regular, DJs spinning vinyl and plenty of dance space.
Story Nightclub

Story Nightclub

Where did the Heat team celebrate their 2013 championship -- and rack up a $100K tab? Meet Story. That parable should say it all about this 27,000 square foot SoBe dance club's prestige factor.
Tobacco Road

  • Bahia Cabana Beach Resort

    Bahia Cabana Beach Resort

3001 Harbor Drive Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316
    954-524-1555

http://www.bahiacabanaresort.com South of the commotion at Beach Place, Bahia Cabana is an oasis of local Fort Lauderdale culture. Tucked away between docks, the Bahia Cabana resort/hotel the bar boasts strong drinks and a ceiling littered with knickknacks, such as street signs and Florida license plates. With the beach across the street, locals and tourists alike drink and eat at the bar, in the attached restaurant area, or out on the dock overlooking yachts. For those arriving via water, dock space is free for bar and restaurant patrons. Tourists, to remember you're in the tropics, order specialty drinks like the "World's Best Frozen Pina Colada" or the "Frozen Pink Lemonade," both $7. Standard domestics cost $4.50, premiums $5. The wine list is extensive and fairly cheap, with no glasses more than $7.50. Throw one back with an order of conch fritters before you walk over for a day in the sun across A1A. The Bar at Level 25

1395 Brickell Ave. Miami, FL 33131
    305-503-6547

http://conradhotels1.hilton.com After an extensive and expensive renovation, the Conrad Hotel's picture-windowed 25th-floor central atrium has reopened as The Bar at Level 25. And despite the space's elegance, it is now an inviting, locals-friendly neighborhood bar, as its policy of free valet parking (with stamped ticket) attests. It's also far more than a watering hole, serving three squares daily. Best times to sample the more informal fare offered by chef Michael Gilligan, of the hotel's fine-dining spot Atrio, are Sunday brunch -- an elaborate all-you-can-eat-and-drink prix fixe spread -- and evenings, when the menu encompasses raw bar selections plus pintxos, Basque for tapas. But the food's scope spreads beyond Spain, with Asian- and Latin-inspired selections such as codfish esqueixada (a refreshing bacalao salad), rich duck confit cazuelita, sinfully satisfying foie gras and goat cheese empanadas, a trio of raw fish and meat tartares, tempura-battered soft-shell crab with spicy chipotle aioli, and other delectable dishes. The lounge offers weekday happy-hour specials with a wide selection of drinks between $5 and $8. But most of the prices are as high-end as the décor. Read more about this Miami bar or club >>

  • The Bar

    The Bar

172 Giralda Ave. Coral Gables, FL 33134
    305-442-2730

http://www.gablesthebar.com A large rectangular mahogany bar anchors the center of the room, thick wood blinds cover the windows, and red lightbulbs give off a honky-tonk orange glow at this pub with pool-hall cool -- but no pool tables. There are games, though, from backgammon to Battleship, as well as live rock and roll on Saturday nights, ladies nights Tuesdays and Fridays, and other such festivities. The Bar is undeniably a fun place, but it takes its brews seriously. Among the 22 types of bottled beers are Pilsner Urquell, Anchor Steam, and rarer finds such as OranjeBoom from Holland ("hints of vanilla and bitterness") and Corsendonk (an ale brewed by Monks in Belgium with "malty hints of port, raisins, and black chocolate" followed by "hints of fruit, smoke, and yeast"). Eleven brews on tap include Guinness, Fosters, and the more obscure wheat beer, Tucher Hefe-Weizen. Pints run from $3.50 to $4.50; pitchers $12.50 to $16; bottles $3.25-$6.50. The Bar's bar food isn't to be taken lightly either; the hand-formed, charbroiled half- or full-pound burgers are better than most, as is the grilled London broil on garlic bread with melted Provolone. Key lime pie and chocolate cake are available for dessert, but 11 single malt scotches and 21 cordials are more appealing postdinner options. Read more about this Miami bar or club >>

  • Barracuda Raw Bar and Grill

    Barracuda Raw Bar and Grill

3035 Fuller St. Coconut Grove, FL 33133
    305-448-1144

http://www.facebook.com/BarracudaGrove Barracuda is a place for college kids. Or for those who wish they were in college. Or for those who think that if they hang around enough college kids, they are allowed to act like them. The dive bar is decorated in a manner that makes it drunken-patron-proof. Nearly everything is made of wood. Beer signs, fishing gear, and sports memorabilia - specifically from the University of Miami - share wall space with random adornments such as a zebra head and foreign currency. There are even long tables perfect for beer pong tournaments situated in the back. Barracuda has been a Coconut Grove staple for more than a decade and appreciated by "college kids" of all ages. The neighborhood joint is widely known for its eight-hour happy hour, from noon to 8 p.m. Drinkers need not limit their happiness to 60 minutes here. Customers can order their choice of more than 50 beers at the massive bar. Domestic suds go for $2.50, imports cost $3.50, and pitchers are $8 to $12. For hungry drinkers, Barracuda offers a menu full of both fresh and fried munchies. The most popular item is called "the best snapper sandwich you've ever had period" ($10). The fish is grilled in a choice of seasoning, spread with tartar sauce, and sandwiched between two slices of garlic bread. Another favorite is Matt's grouper sandwich, which is prepared and presented the same way as the snapper. Although inebriated degree-seekers pack the spot nightly, Thursday is officially college night, and ladies' night is Friday. Read more about this Miami bar or club >>

  • Baru Urbano

    Baru Urbano

    1001 S. Miami Ave. Miami, FL 33130
    786-991-4570

http://www.barurbano.com This Brickell hot spot infuses some much-needed street-side alcohol into what's quickly becoming a happening part of town. The place takes its name and design from urban, graffiti-like influences such as recycled street signs and old Latin concert posters. They are artistically integrated into an outdoor bar and seating area, and blend into a similarly flavored interior. Latin music and a crowd of young professionals fill the space as the sounds of their Argentine, Venezuelan, Cuban, Puerto Rican, and Chilean-inflected Spanish fills the air. Miami Beach has its share of dives. They come, they go, but a few stick around for the long haul, and Beaches is just such a spot. A bar and grill, Beaches serves up cheap drinks and all-American food to anyone looking to escape the sun in favor of a smoky bar and strong drinks. They only close from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m., so any other time, beachgoers can drop in for a burger, a beer, or any other combo of bar food, booze and local characters for company.
