Local piano-bar fans who are in a deep depression over Magnum Lounge closing a couple of weeks back have a new reason to keep on living. Every Friday this November, from 6 to 10 p.m., Cafeina will transform into the Wynwood Piano Bar, where former Magnum Lounge piano man Dr. Wayne will be singing and tickling the ivories, encouraging the whole bar to sing along.

"Our owner Yvette Naranjo had nostalgic memories of going to Chicago piano bars where there was an old-school feeling of everyone gathering around the piano and singing along," said Erika Castro, marketing coordinator for Cafeina. "We're always looking to do events that are more creative and have an interactive element. It's fun to do things like this that aren't that common in Miami."

Cafeina started this Wynwood Piano Bar experiment on Thursdays back in February. They were so delighted to see what positive responses the night and Dr. Wayne's performances garnered that they decided to make this a weekly event, every Friday this month. "Dr. Wayne's a Miami native," Castro explains. "He welcomes everyone to sing along, and he plays everything from Billy Joel's 'Piano Man' to the Beatles to Madonna to today's pop hits that everyone knows the words to."
The folks behind Cafeina Wynwood Lounge also recently opened the new Milk & Honey right next door. It's an intimate venue available for nearly any kind of event you could imagine (we're crossing our fingers for more music).

To help promote the evening, Cafeina will offer complimentary drinks of Jose Cuervo Cinge from 7 to 8 p.m. and a $5 happy-hour special featuring beer, wine, cocktails, and tapas from 5 to 8 p.m.

"We're feeling it out." Castro replied about whether the Wynwood Piano Bar could have a future beyond November now that a huge vacuum has been created in Miami without Magnum Lounge. "We'll see how it goes and then go from there."

Wynwood Paino Bar. 6 p.m. every Friday in November at Cafeina, 297 NW 23rd St., Miami; 305-438-0792; cafeinamiami.com. Admission is free.
