The Hall South Beach has quietly opened with a brand new attitude and a stunning facelift. Joie de Vivre Hospitality has done a total renovation of the 1940s art deco Haddon Hall, designed by L. Murray Dixon, turning what had become a run-down budget hotel into a colorful resort that would have made the Miami architect proud.

Located at 1500 Collins Ave., the Hall houses Spike Mendelsohn's new casual eatery, Sunny's. The restaurant, which soft-opened last week, features a reggae vibe, with red, gold, and green beach chairs in an indoor-outdoor setting. The restaurant features breakfast and all-day beach-centric fare inspired by the Top Chef alum's travels to beach bars around the world. Offerings include a stone crab Benedict (MP), Panther Coffee-spiked strip steak ($28), and bonfire beach s'mores ($14) for dessert.

Sunny's also features a juice bar where fresh juices and bowls are offered. The juice bar also offers the option of spiking your fresh-pressed juice with vodka, tequila, gin, rum, or bourbon for an additional $6 — perfect for when you need a little secret hangover helper.

Then there's Holiday's. This little bar, tucked into what looks like it used to be a meeting room at the hotel, is a Havana Nights daydream of a space. This Afro-Cuban jazz bar features an inviting bar and tables with stools upholstered with retro bongo-print fabric. Holiday's, which is managed by Commune Hotels under the Joie de Vivre brand, will offer pop-up live musical concerts.

Ryan Goodspeed, best known for his role as beverage director at Michael's Genuine Food & Drink, was tasked with creating a bar menu that includes both classic cocktails and some new creations — each served in a unique glass. Cocktails range from $9 to $13 and include the Singapore Sling, which is served in a clear tiki glass with Aviation Gin, Cherry Heering, Clement shrub, Benedictine, pineapple, lime, Angostura bitters, and topped with a big red cherry and lime peel. The Dew Drop, served in a highball glass, featured tarragon-infused Absolut Elyx, absinthe, honeydew melon, lime, chia seed, egg white, and is topped with star anise and a tarragon sprig. The Kracken Bowl, presented in a seahorse-shaped glass, is made with Blackwell rum, Cardamaro, orange, pineapple, lemon, Demerara, Fee old-fashioned bitters, topped with pineapple fronds, bitters, and a flower.

Other cocktails include the Jolly Tiger, served in a Nick & Nora etched glass, with Dillon's Rose Gin liqueur, cayenne, lime soda water, jelly bean syrup, topped with a lime twist and the Snakebite with Vida mezcal, St. George Terroir gin, Velvet Falernum, cardamom, pineapple, lime, and topped with a lime wheel.

In the works at the Hall is Campton Yard, a 5,000-square-foot backyard playground for grownups that include games, craft beers, and a food menu by Spike Mendelsohn. Goodspeed is also being tapped to consult on this project, so watch for some good cocktails at this end, as well. Campton Yard is scheduled to open sometime in early 2016.

Holiday’s is open daily from 5 p.m. until late night, and Sunny’s is open daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
