Barceloneta South Miami Closes

Barceloneta South Miami has closed.

The restaurant  tweeted news of the closing to followers on June 10. Barceloneta South Beach remains open.

The original Barceloneta opened in 2011 as the last installment in a trio of Sunset Harbour restaurants developed by the Pubbelly team of Jose Mendin, Sergio Navarro, and Andreas Schreiner. The Spanish bistro was an instant hit, with New Times' critic Lee Klein saying of restaurant's octopus dish, "The contrasts touch every part of the palate at once, as though the tongue were being teased by numerous octopus tentacles."

The South Miami outpost of Barceloneta opened in early 2013. The restaurant, located at 5850 Sunset Dr., seemed successful, with the Miami Herald noting it had an identical menu to the flagship South Beach location and giving it three stars. 

In an email, Barceloneta South Beach's Manuel Sanchez-Inclan told New Times, “So much of our growth and community involvement has been at Barceloneta South Beach, so the timing seemed right to focus on this location, as well as our new and upcoming projects, when we received a great offer for the South Miami restaurant. We look forward to continuing to serve our guests at Barceloneta South Beach, and thank our loyal customers for their support."

The news of the closing comes as a surprise, especially with reviewers on Yelp and TripAdvisor giving it solid ratings. Recently, the Pubbelly Group closed PB Steak in Miami Beach, with plans to open PB Station in downtown Miami and remain operating partners in Barceloneta South Beach.
