Memorial Day weekend is usually associated with either getting out town - especially if you want to avoid the oncoming South Florida Heat - or with barbeques and laying poolside. But if you're looking to spend your long weekend exploring the culture scene in the Magic City, then we've got a few recommendations for you. It may be hot, but some books, movies and art might be the trick to keep you cool.

Third Annual Haitian Caribbean Book Fair: The fair kicks off Saturday, May 23 from 6-10 p.m. at the Little Haiti Cultural Center. The renowned Haitian and Caribbean authors Edwidge Danticat, Bernard Diederich, and Gérard Férère will be there for an evening presentation. There will also be performances by local artists. The event continues on Sunday, May 24 between 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. at the Little Haiti Cultural Center & Mapou Cultural Center.  Vendors will set up along NE Second Ave. and NE 59th Terrace in Little Haiti. There will be a children’s corner including magicians, dancing, and storytelling, and traditional Haitian music, food, and workshops.

Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) Memorial Day BBQ: On Monday, May 25 from 1-4 p.m., PAMM will host an indoor Memorial Day BBQ. There will be $5 beer and wine specials and live music by bluegrass band The Wynwoods. The museum will also host scavenger hunts throughout the galleries. Back to the Future at O Cinema: The cinema will be screening the iconic '80s action flick May 22 through May 24.
