It was back in October 2013 that Alchemy & Science's Alan Newman and Stacy Steinmetz finally confirmed that Concrete Beach Brewery would open in Wynwood, with a projected opening date of early 2014.

Now, nearly two years later, the brewery is up and running and Concrete Beach's much-anticipated Social Hall will open on Thursday, May 21 — just in time to spend a long weekend enjoying a few cold ones with friends. When it opens, Concrete Beach will join Wynwood Brewing and J. Wakefield on a strip of NW 24th St. that's fast becoming known as Brewer's Way.

Converted from an old warehouse, the Social Hall actually promises to be much more than a place to drink beer (although that would be just fine, actually). Concrete Beach is also planning a series of events including live entertainment, free brewery tours, and beer education nights.

The taproom with a fancy name will seat about 149 guests, with a focal point revolving around its circular bar which wraps from outdoors on the patio to indoors. A glass wall allows Social Hall guests to see the two-story state-of-the-art brewery, which features a 20-barrel brew house and onsite quality control lab. Combined, the brewery and Social Hall encompass over 11,000 square feet of real estate.

Jesse Morris, Concrete Beach's Social Hall manager, says, “We look forward to creating a welcoming environment for all levels of beer enthusiasts and to encouraging folks to ask questions about craft beer. While there are already many devotees of craft beer here that we hope will become fans of Concrete Beach, we’re also focused on introducing craft beer to locals who haven’t yet experienced its complexity and flavor.”

The brewery has been ramping up production in anticipation of the grand opening, and will serve an ever-rotating selection of beers. In addition to the brewery's staples, Rica Wheat IPA and Stiltsville Miami-style Pilsner, a host of other beers will be available. Look for Concrete Common, a common beer similar to Anchor Steam; Walls, a South American Red with malts from Patagonia; and Tropic of Passion, a passion fruit beer.

In the future, the brewery plans on taking advantage of its two special tanks that are dedicated to smaller, experimental batches and seasonal varieties.

Concrete Beach's Social Hall's hours are Thursday from 5 - 10 p.m.; Friday from 6 p.m. - midnight; Saturday from noon - midnight; Sunday from noon - 10 p.m. Days and hours will expand throughout the summer. Free tours of the brewery will be available on Thursday and Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at noon; 1 p.m.; 2 p.m.; and 3 p.m.
