Florida isn't a red state or a blue state. You could call it a purple state, but really it's more of a gradient state. With a few notable exceptions, the deep red of the north fades into the deep blue of the south. So it's really no surprise that Miami Gardens is apparently Florida's most liberal city, while Baker, Florida, all the way up in the Panhandle near the Alabama border, is the state's most conservative.

The data comes from Clarity Campaign Labs, which provides voter data, analytics, research, and strategy to politicians. They have a lot of political data, including tens of thousands of answers to quick surveys designed to assess how liberal or conservative someone is.

Respondents were asked whether they agree or disagree with the following statements:
I identify with the Democrats more so than the Republicans.

Abortion should be legal and accessible to all women.

I attend religious services regularly.

Climate change is an immediate concern that must be addressed.

There should be more restrictions on purchasing and carrying guns.

The government should reduce the deficit primarily by raising taxes rather than cutting services.

I prefer urban areas.
Clarity Campaign Labs then decided to maps those results out by zip code to create an online tool that helps users find the area that best fits their political beliefs in each state. Business Insider then used that tool to find each state's most liberal and conservative towns. Though, Business Insider left out the questions about preferring urban areas and attending church.

Based on that data, it turns out that Miami Gardens is the most liberal town in Florida. That's also Florida's most African-American big city, and the third most African-American big city in the country.

Baker, Florida, was the most conservative. It's actually an un-incorporated area in Okaloosa County with only 7,157 residents. The main zip code of Baker is 93.3 percent white. Residents there also have a slightly lower than average income compared to the rest of Florida.

You can use the tool to find which area of Florida best fits your political views here. As it turns out, we belong in Overtown.
