Owner Jim Heins explains the goal of the new truck is to operate without a generator while open for customers (the truck's engine will still run on gasoline). The refrigeration system, lights, and all internal power will be run by a rechargeable battery instead of the current system, which can be loud and emits fumes. The result is clean, quiet, and eco-friendly.
Heins says that for the first week, the truck will run with a generator backup, but plans on removing the generator as soon as he knows the battery system is working properly. He also plans on fitting the original Latin Burger with a battery system.
Plus the new vehicle will have two ordering windows, making for shorter lines during peak dining hours.
Latin Burger "Uno" will be at Truckers Out West at Grand Prize Chevrolet from 5:30 to 10 p.m., along with more than two dozen other dining options, including Aaron's Catering, Big Kahuna, Caza Crepes, CheeseMe, Chef on 4 Wheels, Chef on Wheels, ChurroMania, Daddy's Grill, Divan Bakery, Dolci Peccati Gelato, the Fish Box, the Flying Saucer, GastroPod, Grillmaster Café, Latin House Grill, MexZican Gourmet, Mr. Good Stuff, Ms. Cheezious, Muscle Truck, Red Koi, the Red Truck, Sir Pizza, Slow Food Truck, Sugar Rush, and Sugar Yummy Mama. 11701 SW 152 St., Miami
