Even though the SLS Hotels and Residences in Brickell won't be open for at least another two years, the city is anticipating the arrival of Miami's second SLS and its accompanying restaurants and amenities.
The high-rise hotel will be located at 1300 S. Miami Ave. in what a sales brochure calls the "new Brickell."
The $300 million building, designed by Arquitectonica and with interiors by Philippe Starck, will consist of a 130-room hotel and 39 floors of residences. Prices for the units are expected to start at $420 per square foot for lower floors and $500 per square foot for midlevel floors.
Though there aren't many details, amenities include a movie theater,
conference facilities, a 200-foot pool, a private rooftop
pool for residents, and a spa.
Dining and drinking options will include Hyde Lounge, S Bar, the
Bazaar by José Andrés, and Katsuya. Michael Schwartz is also expected
to open a restaurant there, though it's too early to ascertain the
concept.
The opening of the SLS Brickell might also be a catalyst for more restaurants and shops to open in the area. According to the South Florida Business Journal,
developer Jorge Pérez wants the City of Miami to close off parts of
South Miami Avenue to traffic and turn it into a pedestrian mall, much
like Lincoln Road in Miami Beach.
The South Florida Business Journal reports
that Pérez is talking with the city about doing a test program that
would close Miami Avenue from Eighth Street to 13th Street on the
weekends. Architecture firm Arquitectonica is being asked to give a
concept on how the street closure might affect traffic.
