Feeling cheesy this weekend? You're in luck, because tomorrow is the "Crack Heard Around the World." Last year, Whole Foods set a Guinness World Record title for the most wheels simultaneously cracked (426) and so they've decided to bring it back. At 3 p.m. tomorrow cheesemongers at stores across the nation will face up against 85-pound wheels of Parmigiano Reggiano when each store hosts its own version of "Crack Heard Around the World." Regardless of your location, be prepared for an afternoon filled with wine drinking, cheese tasting, and record breaking. The grocer's cheese buyers travel to the Parma region to visit the handful of producers to select wheels based on the most appealing flavor profiles. The wheels are carefully aged 24 months to achieve the toasted, salty and nutty flavor, and the subtle crystal-like texture that every cheese lover craves. Parmigiano Reggiano, considered the "King of Cheese," tastes best when freshly cracked, so be prepared to taste the cheese at its absolute finest.
Crack Heard 'Round the World, 3 - 5 p.m
To celebrate the mightiest of cheese, Parmigiano Reggiano, all Whole Foods Market stores in the nation will crack wheels of parm at the same time. Following the cracking of the parm, join the Block Party and visit each department to sample dishes featuring the King of Cheese. Also present will be clowns, a bearded lady, the world's strongest man, and peanuts galore.
