As MIA Brewing Company gets closer to its grand opening, the company needs to keep thirsty fans at bay. What's better than giving away some free beer?

That's what will happen tomorrow night, September 17: the MIA Brewing spotlight at World of Beer in Kendall. Free beer -- free beer for all.

The pouring begins at 6 p.m., and there will be some fresh new Miami-inspired beers on tap:

  • Lost in Paradise Spiced Wheat
  • Castaway Kolsch
  • Hurricane Saison, a red saison

And we're sure you'll have lots of questions for MIA Brewing owner Eddie Leon, such as: "When are you opening?" and "What are you flagship beers?" and "Where are you located?"

Those are all valid questions. Rest assured that things are moving along nicely at MIA. Recently, Leon hired brewmaster Michael Demetrus, who came straight to Miami from Finch's Brewing Company in Chicago, where he was a co-owner, cofounder, and operations manager. Since arriving in Miami last month, Demetrus and his assistant, Piero Rodriguez from Miami homebrew club Subvert Ales, have been at it, brewing like mofos.

Located near U.S. Southern Command in Doral and International Mall, the 10,000-square-foot MIA Brewing headquarters still has some work to do with construction. But the brewing equipment has arrived and is awaiting installation.

MIA Brewing was formerly known as Most Wanted Brewey but made a cautionary name change several months ago because owners wanted to avoid any trademark issues with High Plains Distillery in Kansas, which makes Most Wanted vodka.

But in light of the name change, Leon and his business partners made another smart move: They invested in a start-up distribution company called Most Wanted Beverages, which Leon plans to help launch the brand of MIA Brewing as well as other little-known Latin American craft beers.

MIA Brewing is close to opening and will soon be a huge addition to MIami's growing craft beer industry.
