Once again, we've made it through the work week and the weekend beckons to us. This weekend is all about indulgences.
So, whether you like eating fried foods and getting tossed around afterward or drinking beer and chomping on corned beef, this weekend promises to be filled with food, drink, and good times with friends.
Crush for a Cause
Remember that I Love Lucy episode where she tries to crush grapes, only to get into a terrible fight with a local woman? Those grapes were flying! We can only hope the same thing happens today when four of Miami's top business leaders roll up their pant legs and stomp grapes for charity at the Crush for a Cause event to raise awareness for the upcoming Veritage Miami festival to benefit United Way of Miami-Dade.
Today, March 14, at 11 a.m., watch as Miami bigwigs (Richard D. Fain, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Royal Caribbean Cruises and Chair of Veritage Miami; Jorge Perez, founder of The Related Group; Hilarie Bass, shareholder and co-president of Greenberg Traurig; and Allen Morris, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Allen Morris Company) crush grapes (and hopefully start one big fruit-fight) at 600 Brickell Avenue. What's in it for you? Thankfully no samples to drink, but you will get the chance to win tickets to Veritage Miami, which happens April 9-12.
Miami-Dade County Fair & Expo
The Fair is back and if you've got a hankering for all things fried, this is the place. Fried oreos? Yep. Fried Pepsi? Sure thing. Fried butter? Paula Deen would be so proud. In fact, there are 170 different food vendors serving up everything from giant turkey legs to candy apples. After you've had your fill of all the "nachos in a bag" you can eat, take a spin on one of the midway's 93 rides and try to keep it all down! Tonight's bonus? The Superstars of Wrestling make an appearance! The fair opens at 3 p.m. Monday-Friday and noon on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $12 for adults, but bring two canned food items for their food drive and take $4 off a ticket. Visit thefair.me for discount ride coupons and a schedule of events.
Saint Patrick's Day Starts Early
OK, OK... so Saint Patrick's Day is officially Monday, March 17. But the holiday is so insanely wonderful it deserves a dress rehearsal. That's why St. Practice Day was invented. That means one day to shore up your drinking skills (as if you need help in that department). On Sunday, March 16, enjoy an authentic Irish brunch (with live music) at John Martin's Irish Pub & Restaurant in Coral Gables, Guinness jello shots at Batch Gastropub, or enjoy a beer garden and live entertainment at Fado Irish Pub. Check out our handy Saint Patrick's Day guides for all the details.
