Summertime is here, and you're desperately trying to figure out some easy and healthful meals to whip up in no time. Looking at all the beautiful seasonal fruits, you know there must be a way to use them creatively, but you chicken out and stock up on frozen dinners instead.

James Beard Award-winning chef Allen Susser has a better idea. He's urging you to put down that Lean Cuisine and join him in the kitchen at Whole Foods Market's Coral Gables' Lifestyle Center for a little demo on how to do summertime dishes right.

On Wednesday, July 10, at 7 p.m., Susser will give you tips on making healthful and easy meals using fresh summer produce such as watermelon, tomatoes, peaches, and (of course) mangoes.

Dishes include Thai steak and mango salad; watermelon gazpacho; tomato, bacon, and Munster grilled cheese; and peach tartine with macadamia nuts. Best of all: You'll be able to sample each one.

The evening is free, but space is limited, so preregister by calling 305-421-9421.

And if you're an Allen Susser fan, don't miss Miami New Times' Iron Fork/Miami Spice Kickoff August 1 at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. Susser will host the chef competition, which will pit Jamie DeRosa of Tongue & Cheek against Giorgio Rapicavoli of Eating House in a battle for the 2013 title of Iron Fork champion. Tickets cost $40 for GA and $75 for VIP until July 31. VIP ticket-holders get to take part in the action an hour before GA is admitted inside and enjoy wine, beer, and Bacardi cocktails. Purchase tickets at microapp.miaminewtimes.com/ironfork/2013.
