It's almost that time of year again when race fans across the nation descend on Homestead for the last race of the NASCAR season. This year they'll be joined by First Lady Michelle Obama and Second Lady Jill Biden, meaning that very likely Michelle Obama will become the first black woman in history to attend a NASCAR event.

Did we cross a line with that? We really shouldn't be trading in hateful and ignorant racial stereotypes that hold that only white folk are stupid enough to be entertained by cars traveling in a circle for hours on end. Shame on us. Shame on Riptide. We apologize, whiteys.

Anyway, despite the Ford 400 marking the end of the NASCAR season, it's only the beginning of campaign season, so the timing isn't coincidental.

The audience is expected to include a large portion of active and retired military members and their families, and the appearance is part of the Obama team's effort to reach out to military families.

Obama and Biden will get to say the famous line "Gentlemen, start your engines" during the November 20 appearance.
