Even with the unofficial entrance of Connie Mack IV into the race, the GOP Senate nomination in Florida is still a wide-open race. Today Nick Loeb, the grandson of one of the Lehman Brothers and, so much more important, the boyfriend of Sofia Vergara, will make an announcement in South Beach about his political future. Updated

Loeb will make the announcement at 2 p.m. today at the Sagamore, and yes indeed, Ms. Vergara, a former Miami resident herself, will be there. Let's hope the Modern Family star will bring a box of baby Jesus.

Loeb previously attempted to run for state Senate and raised major money, but pulled out after his wife left him for her Scandinavian lover and filed for divorce. Before turning to politics, he dabbled in Hollywood by working on various testicle-themed movies.

The Miami Herald reports that Loeb might have Roger Stone in his corner. He's the controversial GOP hit man who was most recently behind the unsuccessful Miami Beach mayoral bid of Steve Berke.

Anyway, having Sofia Vergara and Roger Stone in the mix should add some much-needed excitement to an otherwise boring race. Too bad Loeb can't put his name as "Mr. Sofia Vergara" on the ballot.

Update: Loeb says he won't be running, according to Naked Politics.

"I have the passion. I have the drive," Loeb said at his presser. "But the job of U.S. senator requires physical and mental commitment."

Ultimately he cited the fact he's still recovering from a 2010 car crash as the deciding factor. Though he left the door open for future campaigns.
